Spring in Winter…Swoon

Despite the six more weeks of winter that Phil has promised, cold weather pieces are quickly making their way on to the sales racks in the back of shops as airy, springtime pieces  invade their space. I have always struggled with that magical time of year when the fashion seasons change (not to be confused with the actual seasons.) I tend to get super excited about new trends and the possibility of change and buy pieces for the upcoming (real) season far before it makes sense. (It is hard to wear a sundress when it is 25 degrees outside and just as hard to pull off a sweater in 80 degrees for that matter.)

If you are like me (i.e. impatient) and want to wear everything new you procure immediately, then it is important to know how to winterize. Thankfully opaque tights and bulky knits continue to be practical as well as stylish when paired with sheer, flowy pieces. Go ahead and break out that new breezy maxi or delicate blouse and add fun thick tights, a baggy sweater, and boots. I have already totally rocked my gorge new cream, pleated skirt that I snagged  for spring while shopping at  Panello last weekend with my friend, Ashley, or as I like to call her, The Commander.

I really love this Tunic, also from Panello. The color is one of my favs and the “tails” in the front/uneven hem line make it more interesting than your average tunic. I initially picked up the skirt and tunic as separate pieces loving them both on their own, but when I tried them on together, it was instant outfit swoon.

Red Plaid…swoon

This last Saturday it actually looked like winter, briefly. I woke up to snow which made me crave knee socks and boots and bold plaid. The print of this skirt reminds me of Christmas and school uniforms which are both often lovelier in theory. Still, it felt magical the way it always does for those first few snow falls of the year (even if they don’t happen until February.) I some how was even totally fine with the salt showing up on the toes of my boots, which is significantly more irritating now that the snow is gone and I sit here typing this.

I can’t explain the urge to wear my harmonica necklace. All I am saying is it would have come in handy if some impromptu caroling broke out.

By Saturday afternoon, the snow was gone and I went on a mini shopping spree in Lawerenceville with The Commander in Chic at Pavement and Panello (outfit posts to come!) Later that night, Jon and I joined a group of super people to celebrate our friend Chris’s Birthday. Chris has always been a FashionMista or a Fashionisto (he was, in fact, awarded best dressed at PHAS some years back,) so it was no surprise he was ringing in his 32nd year with style nor was it a surprise that he was feeling the red plaid. It warranted some last min. photos for the blog. As I wasn’t thinking and came unprepared for a photo sess, the pics are Iphone-at-night quality, but this man and his beautiful beard can make anything look good, so you will get the jest.
